Crestview is situated on three major Highways (US 90, State Road 85 and Interstate 10). Crestview is 50 miles east of Pensacola, 150 miles west of Florida's Capital City Tallahassee, and 30 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico.

The city was incorporated in 1916 with a population of 400 people. Okaloosa County was formed in 1915 by an act of the Florida Legislature from portions of Western Walton and Eastern Santa Rosa Counties, Crestview, known as the "Hub City of Northwest Florida," became the County Seat in 1917.

The name, Crestview, was chosen because the town is situated on the peak of a long wooded range between the Yellow River and the Shoal River, which flow almost parallel on either side of the city. Also, it is located at the second highest altitude in the state, 235 ft. above sea level, hence the name.

The recreational facilities and activities in and near the city include fishing, camping and canoeing plus the two 18-hole golf courses, swimming pool and tennis courts which are available at the Foxwood Country Club and the new Shoal Riber Country Club.

Crestview has an excellent education system ranging from local public schools (one high school, one junior high, four elementary, and one technical school), and a community college located 16 miles away. In addition, the University of West Florida maintains a branch approximately 20 miles south of the City.

The community is proud of its small-town atmosphere. Rich in history and traditions of Indians, French, Spanish and English settlers, Crestview is a perfect place to live and raise a family.
